Hello! well it's been a while just like I promised it wouldn't be..oops! Okay well I'm here now and I have to say I have changed a few things. My blog name changed, yup I decided that SewCalgirl was pretty cute and it fit me since I grew up in Southern California hence SewCal .. I was born this clever what can I say :)
I've been making lots and lots of hooded towels, you will see me post them here. I started by making a few for my cousin's boss, and then it's been non stop since then. I really did not follow a pattern or tutorial form the web since all the tutorials I found called for 1/2 of a hand towel for the hood and I thought that was too small, all this will make sense when you see my step by step tutorial.

Boy's Pillow case
Eli had requested I make him a blanket or pillow case with this brown minky fabric he loved, it had been on the changing pad cover of his little sisters nursery.
What I did was rip out all the seems where the elastic was on the cover to make it on big open piece of fabric, it was not going to be big enough for the whole pillow case not to mention a blanket, so I set off in search of more brown minky fabric. I could not find any brown fabric so I found black and decided that would work fine with the sports theme fabric I had picked out for the "cuff" of the pillow case.
When I got home I laid out the black fabric on to my cutting table and I could not help but love the look of the brown fabric, so I that's how I decided to do one side brown and one side black. What I love especially is that the brown fabric has been re-purposed
Toothfairy pillow
I made my first tooth fairy pillow. It came it out cute I think but I want to tweek it a little and also play with different fabrics. Yes it is a big giant tooth :) Also the tooth on the pink one is a pocket for the tooth fairy and the brown one has a pink pocket in the back and I hand embroidered a name.... Again very very new to me so it's not the best but I wanted to put it up before I let another 6 months go by !
For Ms. Becktell
This was not a sewn item but rather a craft gift for Emma's 1st Kindergarten Teacher. Since we moved two months into Emmas school year she wanted to give her teacher a gift. What I did was hot glue pencils around a vase from the dollar store and then I had the letter B from a previous craft I had done then I bought some scrap booking stickers that had wording like "Best Teacher" things like that and glued them on. The flowers in the vase were also very inexpensive. Ms. Becktell loved her gift! we sure do miss her.
Towel wraps for the girls
These pretty towel wraps were pretty easy to make, they were custom made for my two nieces Sadie and Hadley. I really like the way they turned out but I did not take any pictures of me making them :( I will be doing more tutorial pics of the new stuff I make.
Back to it
Thank you to my 2 followers :) I promise to update this blog more often event just give a update on what my latest sewing interest are. I have lots and lots of ideas but not enough time to do them, thanks to Pinterest for helping scatter my brain :) But of now here is what I've made since October of 2011.

Baby Maddox
My Brother in law Davids sister Angie who is a close friend of mine was shocked to find out she was having a boy after having 3 girls. So I decided for her baby shower to make some cute tie onesies and incorporate some camouflage print in her gift, since her husband is in the military I found it fitting :). I unfortunately did not take any pictures of all the onesie I made but of this one below. I wanted to make a onesie that the baby could wear to an upcoming wedding. I think they turned out great and my friend loved them.
